Scene work is a vital part of theatre education. In this class, students work in pairs and small groups on short scenes taken from classic plays. Learning and working in these smaller pieces provides an excellent way in which to learn and develop not only an actor’s on-stage skills, but also the off-stage and book work skills an actor must cultivate in order to translate words on a page into something magical and believable on stage. Students will explore how to extract clues from scripts about character, environment, and story and then apply those to the acting process. Students will perform their work for a live audience.

Previous acting experience is helpful, but not required for this class.
